October-November News

team@eighthats.com 22 December, 2025

The year is approaching its conclusion at a swift pace. This past October, Kitakule Foundation started a new building project aiming to replace the old latrines with expanded modern toilets.

The work is ongoing. Completion of this project will allow us to offer extra services to the community comfortably.

Nawangisa Library

Our goal is to offer prekindergarten/kindergarten at this site. The story time and school activities are attracting children of a wide range age (5-11 yrs) which underscores the need in the community. The youngsters are eager to take part in all the activities.

School Debate

Busesa library hosted an inter school debate, 7th November. This is the second year we are organizing and hosting this debate. Both the students and teachers in the participating schools were excited about this event. Gertrude Nalugo, the librarian, welcomed the guests and reminded them of the merits of the community library in nurturing the minds of the students and other community members.

This year, 173 students from twelve different schools took part in the debate. These are the schools that were in attendance; St. Andrew Secondary School (S.S), A.T.K High School, Bubinga High School, Bulunguli Seed S.S, Butende S.S, Bugweri College School, Idudi Seed S.S, Idudi Township S.S, M’arwaan Islamic S.S, Nakibembe S.S, Nkuutu S.S, and Tropical High School.

Each school provided three members for each debate round. The judges chose winning participants for each round.

Motions for each round were as follows:

Round one – Innovation and creativity should be driven by social needs rather than profits.

Round two – Innovation, not Education is key to Africa’s transformation.

Round three – should government invest more in Tech start- Ups led by youth?

Round four – This house believes that true innovation can never co-exist with strict intellectual laws.

Round five was a showcase for Innovation and creativity.

Each debate round lasted thirty minutes, including opening remarks, rebuttals, and concluding remarks. The participants were evaluated based on the quality of their presentations, the strength of their arguments, and how well they worked together as a team.

The team from ATK High school won first place in debate while Bulunguli Seed SS took home the award for Innovation and creativity. Tropical High School won the medal for best speakers.
The judges included teachers and local community leaders. Also, in attendance were Bugweri District Senior Education Officer, Mr. Kiryagana Francisco, Kyabazinga initiative representatives and youth officers, Mr. Badhebye M. Isaac, and Mr. Lwamaza Shalif Isiko.

Mr Ronnie. K. Nkuutu, a mentor and innovator from Busesa spoke about the role of youth in leadership and encouraged the students to “aspire to inspire others to do better”.

We are grateful to all the teachers, community leaders and friends of the library that helped make this event a success.
