ABOUT

The Kitakule Foundation was set up in 2012 to honor the vision of the late Abiathar Kitakule. The late Mr. Kitakule  was an advocate for  a good education.

He  stopped at nothing to make sure that all his children had access to the best education he could afford. Despite the prevailing culture norm against educating girls,  he  made sure that  all his daughters had access to a good education.

Guided by strong Christian principles, the late Kitakule’s now adult children have continued his mission of educating many young men and women some of whom are now working to further his mission through this foundation.

BACKGROUND

Ugandan children living in slum districts and isolated rural areas have limited opportunities to learn  reading early and this affects all their educational years. The issue of low reading ability is more prevalent in rural areas, where there are fewer teachers able to teach reading and less commitment to education.

Education is a significant factor in the development of children, communities, and countries. Improving quality of education can open doors for children and communities and  help break the intergenerational chains of poverty.

The same rural community has poor access to health care.

MISSION

Our mission is straight forward. We intend to promote Education and health in rural communities. The Busesa Community library is the first step in this mission.  The Library will help us achieve the following.

  • Provide school children with books and digital resources
  • Internet Connectivity for children and the community
  • Provide a  center for learning for the community, fellowship and growth
  • Provide a safe environment for children to learn and exercise their faith
  •  A flag ship for a rural complex that will be a focal point for community activities and empowerment.

EDUCATION

The Busesa Community library was launched after a book drive spearheaded by the children of The Episcopal School of Acadiana, USA and also with support from Children in the United Kingdom.

The structure is now complete with just a few final touches.   Students have the opportunity to study at night due to availability of solar power. The facility is a center for activities that are educational and entertaining for the children.  We have installed furniture for computer stations on both floors and in special study rooms that have been created.

The second floor which is designed to be an audiovisual room for educational activities has been completed.  The space will be used for educational activities for both young and old.

HEALTHCARE

Hope Children’s Clinic provides excellent care to the community at a highly subsidized flat fee.

The fee includes free medications and follow-up visits for those that need. Plan is to provide at least 1 free well visit to every child in the community. In cooperation with the health ministry of Uganda, we now provide free immunization twice a week. The clinic is completely electronic using a cloud based EMR provided free of charge by Imed software Corporation based in Lafayette, Louisiana. The clinic  is the first and only pediatric rural clinic in the country to be completely electronic . The facility is solar powered.

We plan to expand our services to other areas in the Busoga region. We are scouting potential locations. We believe that our model of healthcare provision has the potential of transforming healthcare in the whole region.
