Hope Children’s Clinic Busesa in collaboration with Bugweri Health Center 4, had the privilege of hosting members of Rotary Kampala South in the first Maternal and Child Care medical camp in the region the weekend of January 27-28, 2024.
Rotary Kampala South donated medical equipment and a printer late last year. The equipment included a portable ultrasound machine and cart, Stethoscopes, Pulse oximeters, adult weighing scale and a delivery bed. The Rotary team had the opportunity to officially hand over the equipment to the Clinic staff and to offer their services in the Maternal and Child Care Medical Camp.
Community members started arriving early Saturday morning, some travelling from distant counties, like Bupala and Nawasenga to participate in this community event. The camp hosted 201 children ages 0- 19 yrs. and 195 adults. These numbers don’t include the adults serving in the camp.
Twenty-nine pregnant mothers received care.
The day’s activities included, antenatal and postnatal care, immunizations, mental health education, medical checkup/screening,and vision screening. Corrective eye glasses were offered to 65 participants, free of charge.
Expectant mothers had the rare opportunity to receive sonography, thanks to the new ultrasound device. In addition, they were screened for Malaria, HIV, and Syphilis. Each expectant mother received a Mama Kit that included prenatal vitamins among other necessities.
Leah Kyesubire, a representative of Kitakule Foundation reported that the event had been received well by the community as evidenced by the numbers in attendance. Some of the mothers she’d spoken to, were surprised that all the services, including the medication and kits were free of charge.
The Directors at Kitakule Foundation extend their appreciation to the Rotary Club of Kampala South and all who made this dream a reality.
